Introducing Art Classes with Laura Trouard at The Orchard: A Creative Journey for Kids!

Updated: Oct 26

We’re thrilled to announce that Laura Trouard, artist and instructor, will be offering two special art classes at Meadow Lakes Orchard this October! If you have a budding artist at home, this is the perfect opportunity for them to explore their creativity in a fun, supportive environment.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 3rd, at 1 PM (THIS CLASS WILL BE RESCHEDULED SOON!) and Friday, October 18th, at 3:30 PM, when Laura will guide young artists (ages 6-10) through a series of engaging and imaginative activities. These sessions are designed to nurture individual learning styles, encourage creative thinking, and introduce kids to a variety of artistic techniques. With her background in several artistic mediums and a decades-long dedication to her craft, Laura is excited to help kids unlock their creative potential at The Orchard.

Meet Laura Trouard: Artist, Teacher, and Creative Mentor

Laura has a unique and varied artistic background, making her an inspiring teacher for young students. Over the years, she has honed her skills across a wide range of mediums, including:

  • Embroidery, sewing, and beadwork – Delicate, intricate crafts that require patience and precision

  • Painting and drawing – Both traditional and abstract styles, using a variety of materials

  • Aerial art – A graceful combination of physicality and creativity, offering a completely different form of expression

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Laura has a passion for teaching. She has previously taught both art and horseback riding, giving her a well-rounded background in mentoring students. Over the past 15 years, Laura has grown increasingly focused on nurturing her own artistic talents, and it feels like a natural transition for her to share this passion with the next generation of artists.

Laura’s teaching style is all about "thinking outside the box" and fostering an environment where students can explore their individual creative instincts. She believes every child has their own unique way of learning and excelling, and she’s committed to helping each student discover what that is.

What to Expect from the October Classes

Laura has thoughtfully designed two different art classes to inspire young artists and introduce them to new creative techniques. Each class will be full of exciting activities tailored for kids aged 6-10, with the possibility of adding more sessions if there’s enough interest.

Thursday, October 3rd, at 1 PM (WILL RESCHEDULE SOON, STAY TUNED!)

The first class will begin with some warm-up sketching exercises to help the kids loosen up and get into the flow of creating. Laura will then guide the students through a collage-making activity, focusing on the theme of circles. Collage work is a great way for kids to express their creativity, using different textures and shapes to build a piece of art that is completely their own. Through this activity, Laura will encourage students to think in new ways about how shapes and colors come together, sparking their imaginations.

Friday, October 18th, at 3:30 PM

The second class will feature an abstract art activity, using pens, markers, and rice. Abstract art allows kids to break away from traditional forms and represent ideas or emotions in a more fluid, less structured way. By exploring lines, patterns, and vibrant colors, students will have the freedom to create something that reflects their personal expression. This class is ideal for helping young artists understand that art doesn’t have to look any one way—it’s about exploration and creativity.

Each session is designed to engage kids in hands-on learning, while giving them the freedom to explore their personal creativity in a supportive environment. The small class size ensures that every child will get personalized attention from Laura, allowing her to tailor her guidance to fit each student’s needs.

Limited Class Size – Reserve Your Spot!

In order to ensure that each child gets the individual attention and guidance they need, class size is limited to just ten students. This intimate setting allows for plenty of one-on-one time with Laura, so kids can really dive into the creative process and receive the feedback they need to grow as artists.

Given the limited availability, we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible to reserve a spot for your child. Laura is also open to teaching an additional class for kids aged 10-14 if there’s enough interest, so please let us know if you have an older artist who’d love to join!

Why Art Classes Are a Great Opportunity for Your Child

Art classes aren’t just about learning how to draw or paint—they’re about exploring creativity, building confidence, and learning to see the world in new ways. By participating in Laura Trouard’s classes, your child will:

  • Develop fine motor skills: Whether sketching or working on a collage, art involves careful hand-eye coordination that helps kids develop their fine motor abilities.

  • Encourage self-expression: Art is one of the best outlets for kids to express their emotions, ideas, and imagination. Laura’s classes are designed to let each child create something that’s meaningful to them.

  • Foster problem-solving skills: Creating art involves thinking critically about composition, balance, and technique, which helps kids learn problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way.

  • Boost self-esteem: Completing an art project gives kids a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work, boosting their confidence in their abilities.

At Meadow Lakes Orchard, we’re committed to providing enriching experiences for our community, and these art classes are a wonderful way for kids to learn, grow, and have fun.

Classes are $15 per spot.
