Arkansas Blacks Are Here This Week! Don’t Miss Out on This Long-Awaited Treat!

Updated: Oct 26

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The famed Arkansas Black apples will be ready for harvest this week at the farm, and we couldn’t be more excited to share them with you. If you’ve been holding out for something truly special this season, this is it - an apple that’s so much more than just an apple!

Robin’s been keeping a close eye on these beauties, and we’ve got big plans. On Monday, Robin will be doing a taste test to make sure they’ve hit that perfect sweet spot of ripeness. Once we get the go-ahead, we’ll do a round of picking on Tuesday and Wednesday so that starting Thursday, you can come out to the farm and grab as many as you can carry! Trust us, you’ll want to get your hands on these.

So, What Makes the Arkansas Black So Special?

The Arkansas Black is no ordinary apple. Known for its deep, almost purple-red skin and firm, crisp texture, this heirloom variety is a fan favorite for many reasons. First off, let’s talk flavor: Arkansas Blacks are a wonderful balance of tart and sweet, with a rich, complex flavor that becomes even better the longer they’re stored. That’s right - this apple is a true keeper.

Unlike many other apples that lose their luster after a few weeks, Arkansas Blacks improve in storage. With proper care, they can last months in your refrigerator, turning sweeter and slightly softer over time, without losing their signature snap. It’s a perfect apple for those who want to enjoy fall’s bounty deep into the winter.

What Can You Do With Arkansas Blacks?

These apples are incredibly versatile. They’re firm enough to hold their shape in pies and tarts, and their bold flavor shines when baked or cooked down into sauces. Love to snack on apples? Arkansas Blacks are perfectly crisp for eating fresh, too, especially if you like a good crunch with a bit of tartness. Some people even love them for making cider because of their distinct, full-bodied flavor.

Why You’ll Want to Stock Up

Because Arkansas Blacks store so well, this is your chance to fill up your pantry with a variety that will last. Whether you plan to bake holiday pies, make apple butter, or simply want fresh apples to snack on for weeks to come, now’s the time to stock up.

Mark Your Calendars!

We’ll be open from Thursday to Sunday, 9am-4:30pm, and the Arkansas Blacks will be available starting Thursday morning. We’ve been anticipating this moment for a while, and we know many of you have too. Don’t miss your chance to get in on one of the most exciting harvests of the season!

How to Get Yours

The harvest is expected to be bountiful, but these apples have a huge following, so make sure you stop by early to grab yours before we run out! You’ll be able to pick up Arkansas Blacks in our retail store, and we’ll also have plenty of other fall goodies, including fresh apple cider, baked goods, and more.

We can’t wait to see you out here enjoying the orchard! Keep an eye out for Robin’s taste test results on Monday, and get ready for a week full of delicious Arkansas Blacks starting on Thursday!
